Business Impact Mapping is a simple, but powerful technique that helps organizations ensure their learning solutions are aligned to the needs of the business. Used most commonly when developing new learning solutions, impact mapping helps link learning objectives to the key job performance objectives that ultimately drive desired bottom line results and strategy. In this session, you'll learn what an impact map is, why it's used, and when to use it. We'll discuss desired outcomes at three levels: Learning, Job Performance, and Organizational Results. You'll get your feet wet working on a mini-case study describing a slightly messy—but real-world—business situation. Together we'll analyze the business situation and collaboratively construct an impact map creating a clear line-of-sight that aligns training objectives with Job Performance, and Organizational Outcomes. Learn to:
- Adopt results-focused thinking.
- Identify and differentiate specific learning, job performance, and organizational outcomes.
- Create an Impact Map demonstrating a clear line-of-sight between learning, job performance, bottom-line results and strategy
Speaker Biographies - Dr. Lynette Gillis and Allan Bailey
Allan is an internationally recognized authority on evaluating the impact of workplace learning. He provides a diversity of evaluation and training services for a range of clients including Harvard Business, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Capital One, Scotiabank, and the Central Bank of Brazil.
Dr. Gillis is an cognitive and educational psychologist. For almost four decades, her consulting career has focused on improving existing design and evaluation methodologies to help organizations maximize the effectiveness and impact of their learning investments. In 2011, Lynette was named a Fellow of the Institute for Performance and Learning.
Together, Lynette and Allan are the originators of the High Impact Evaluation™ methodology. HIE is a predictive and proactive learning evaluation methodology and toolset created to help organizations ensure their learning strategy and programs achieve maximum impact and value for money. HIE is the outcome of a major, five-year research effort conducted in partnership with the Institute for Performance and Learning and the Canadian federal government.
HIE gives organizations new, robust alternative to traditional evaluation, changing the focus to driving performance and results rather than simply measuring reactions.
