Get Ready for: Team Coaching for Collective Performance and Change
We're counting down to Team Coaching for Collective Performance and Change with Michelle Chambers on Wednesday, September 16 (5:00–7:00 PM EDT, in person) — and we want you to walk in already thinking about your team as a whole, not just the individuals in it.

Michelle is the founder of Chambers & Associates and Teams Matter, and has spent over 25 years helping organizations — including Microsoft, TELUS Mobility, Ontario Power Generation, and McCain Foods — build stronger, more collaborative teams. She's faculty with both Team Coaching International and the Global Team Coaching Institute, holds ICF's Advanced Certification in Team Coaching (ACTC), and teaches at the Schulich Executive Education Centre at York University.
In Choice Magazine Michelle put it this way, echoing a definition from team coaching pioneer Peter Hawkins: team coaching is "about coaching the client as a system within the systems in which they operate." Developing strong individuals is not the same as developing a strong team — and at the end of the day, teams are measured on their collective performance, not their individual ones.
She'll walk us through how team coaching differs from team development (it's the only one of the six major approaches — building, training, consulting, mentoring, facilitation, and coaching — built for the long term, with the team and coach as genuine partners), what actually supports stronger collective performance, the indicators that separate high-performing teams from the rest, and practical ways to bring a team coaching lens to the challenges we're already facing at work.
Here are a few resources to help prepare for the session - not required, but useful for formulating questions and insights from your own experiences. Michelle has also written many LinkedIn articles.
Start here — "Is Team Coaching a Fit for Me?" (Choice Magazine): Michelle's own feature on how to tell team coaching apart from other approaches, and what it actually takes to coach a team as a system. You can find it in Michelle's Featured section on her LinkedIn profile, or read it with a Choice Magazine subscription — it ran in Volume 20, Number 4, "Team and Group Coaching in an Evolving World," available here: https://store.choice-online.com/product/volume-20-number-4-team-and-group-coaching-in-an-evolving-world/
Go deeper — "Secrets of High Impact Team Coaching" (TNM Coaching podcast): Michelle unpacks how team coaching differs from individual coaching, the common challenges teams run into, and practical strategies for working through them. https://tnmcoaching.com/podcast/secrets-of-high-impact-team-coaching-with-michelle-chambers/
On what actually sustains performance — "Episode 177: Joyful Teams, Real Results" (choice Magazine podcast): Michelle on collective joy as a driver of psychological safety and sustainable results, with a real case study of a team holding together through leadership turnover, an audit failure, COVID-19, and a ransomware attack. https://www.buzzsprout.com/1786019/episodes/18700549-episode-177-joyful-teams-real-results-with-guest-michelle-chambers
